Applying for a Saudi Visa From the US or Lebanon With a UK Employer: What Changes

A UK‑based employer can sponsor staff who are temporarily based in the United States or Lebanon, but the visa paperwork must follow the rules of the applicant’s current residence. This creates a dual‑track process: the sponsor’s documentation must satisfy both UK corporate requirements and the Saudi embassy’s expectations in the country where the applicant files the application.

Sponsorship Verification When the Employer Is Based in the UK

The UK employer must provide a formal sponsorship letter on company headed paper, confirming the role, duration and financial support. Saudi authorities also expect proof that the employer is a legitimate UK entity, which often means a certified copy of the company’s registration from Companies House.

Because the applicant is not filing in the UK, the sponsorship letter usually needs to be authenticated by the UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) before it can be accepted by the Saudi embassy abroad. This extra step ensures the Saudi officials recognise the UK‑origin document as genuine.

Document Attestation for US‑Based Applicants

US‑issued documents such as educational certificates or police clearances must first receive an apostille from the U.S. Department of State. After the apostille, the documents are translated into Arabic if required, and the translation is also notarised.

The final step is to have the Saudi embassy in Washington, D.C. attest the apostilled documents. Some UK‑issued papers that travel with the applicant may still need verification through the UK’s ACRO system before the Saudi embassy will accept them.

Document Attestation for Lebanese Applicants

In Lebanon, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs provides the primary attestation for Lebanese civil documents. Once the Ministry stamps the paperwork, the applicant must obtain a further endorsement from the Saudi embassy in Beirut.

All documents must be translated into Arabic by a certified translator, and the translation itself is subject to the same attestation chain. This two‑step process—Lebanese Ministry followed by Saudi embassy—differs from the U.S. route and can add extra time for verification.

Embassy Submission and Interview Considerations

The Saudi embassy in the United States typically requires an online appointment and may ask for an in‑person interview depending on the visa category. In Lebanon, appointments are often booked through the embassy’s local portal, and interview requirements can be stricter for work visas.

Regardless of location, the Saudi sponsor must issue an invitation letter that matches the details in the UK employer’s sponsorship letter. Coordinating these parallel documents is crucial, as any mismatch can lead to delays or a request for additional evidence.

Navigating the differing attestation chains and embassy procedures can be complex, especially when a UK employer is involved. Consulting a specialist who understands both the UK sponsorship framework and the local requirements in the US or Lebanon can help ensure a smoother application process.
