MOFA Attestation for Saudi Visas
August 13, 2025Bringing family members to live or visit in Saudi Arabia remains a top priority for many expatriate professionals. In 2025, the Kingdom continues to offer several visa options for dependents of foreign workers, with clear regulations, structured processes, and a focus on compliance.
Overview of Family Visa Options
Saudi Arabia offers three primary pathways for expats seeking to sponsor or host family members:
Family Residency Visa – Long-term stay under iqama sponsorship
Family Visit Visa – Short-term visit for immediate relatives
Premium Residency (Special Privilege Iqama) – Sponsor-free, long-term residency for eligible applicants
1. Family Residency Visa (Iqama-Based Sponsorship)
This visa type allows expatriates holding valid work permits (Iqama) to sponsor their immediate family members for long-term residence in the Kingdom.
Eligibility
The applicant must be a resident with a valid Iqama issued under an employment contract.
Eligible dependents include spouse and children. Children over the age of 18 may require a separate visa.
Required Documentation
Valid passports (minimum 6-month validity)
Attested marriage certificate (for spouse)
Attested birth certificates (for children)
Medical clearance from an authorized health provider
Passport-sized photographs
Iqama copy and employment certificate
Valid health insurance for all dependents
Compliance Considerations
Sponsors must ensure visa renewals are completed on time and must notify authorities if dependents exit the country permanently. Failure to comply may result in penalties of up to SAR 50,000, imprisonment, or deportation.
2. Family Visit Visa (Short-Term Stay)
This visa permits the temporary entry of immediate family members of expatriate residents for a visit period of up to 90 days, with potential extensions.
Eligibility
The sponsor must be a resident with a valid Iqama.
The visa is generally limited to immediate family members (e.g., spouse, parents, children).
Validity
Single-entry visa valid for up to 90 days
Possible to extend based on prevailing rules
Recent Updates (2025)
As of June 2025, Saudi authorities have resumed the issuance of family visit visas for nationals of previously restricted countries, including India, Pakistan, Egypt, and Bangladesh. Entry remains subject to immigration authority approval at ports of entry.
