Certification Requirements by Document Type
Under UK Government guidance, what happens before legalisation depends on who issued the document:
- Certificates issued by a public registry, such as birth, marriage and death certificates, can usually be legalised without a notary or solicitor.
- Qualification certificates, powers of attorney and copies of passports or driving licences must first be certified by a UK public official, such as a notary or solicitor.
- Documents from a court must carry a wet-ink court seal.
The Process
Once any certification is complete, your document is legalised by the FCDO Legalisation Office and then stamped at the Kuwaiti Embassy in London. Documents may also need approval from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Kuwait, and we advise on this when you contact us.
Important Notice
Requirements can change, and the authorities involved set their own rules. We confirm the current process with you before submitting your documents.
