The Qatar Attestation Process
Qatar is not a party to the Apostille Convention, so a UK apostille on its own is not the whole process. UK Government guidance sets out three steps for UK documents used in Qatar:
- FCDO legalisation: the document is legalised by the Legalisation Office in the UK.
- Qatar Embassy in London: once the FCDO signature is in place, the document is legalised by the Qatar Embassy in London.
- Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Qatar: you or your employer can then take the document to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Qatar for attestation, which is the final step.
Before Legalisation: Certification
Some documents must first be certified by a UK public official, such as a notary or solicitor. This applies to documents such as powers of attorney, contracts, qualification certificates and copies of passports or driving licences. Certificates issued by courts, public registries and government departments can usually be legalised without this step.
Personal and Commercial Documents
Personal, educational and commercial documents can follow different routes and requirements. Contact us before you start and we will confirm the correct route for your documents.
